Well, maybe that’s an exaggeration. Someone did dig through the stuff in my car, but I suspect that I accidentally left it unlocked last night. Nothing was broken, and as best I can tell, nothing is missing, not even the change in the coin holder.
When I opened the driver’s door I noticed a few shift knobs that were in the center console sitting in the driver’s seat. And when I started driving I noticed a door ajar light which is usually the rear hatch (and it was in this case). Last time, someone broke a window and grabbed my GPS, but this time the GPS was sitting by the parking brake; I guess those things don’t have much value on the black market these days. Last night I did remove two computers, and a couple of weeks ago I took out the Shop Vac, so other than some wipers, a hard drive array box, a vintage shortwave radio and a bunch of water and sodas, there really isn’t much to steal.
I guess I should be grateful that nothing was broken and nothing appears to have been taken, but it’s a little unsettling nonetheless. Ah, the joys of living in the ‘hood...

Living in lower income areas is exciting. I just moved to a not-the-best area that is being poorly gentrified and you do come across some interesting people. Glad I haven’t been murdered yet.

I’ve been street parking in Detroit for a month now because fucking mulberries were fucking my shit up. They seem to be done now ... I should park in the back yard again.
Glad nothing seems to have been taken, or broken.

Sorry to hear that but glad nothing of value was taken. I live in a quiet residential neighborhood, on a brightly lit dead end street, in a very safe city by American standards, and I’m pretty sure every door handle on every car on the street gets tested at least weekly. If you leave it unlocked, the glovebox gets tossed. It happened to the former Mrs. just a couple weeks ago. She’s left half the mess in the footwell ever since just to show they already got everything good. It would be uncanny if it wasn’t so predictable.

Yeah, it’s an interesting life. I was once sipping a drink on my front lawn at 1 in the morning (don’t ask - I just got off work), when a local drug dealer rolled up on his BMX bike and offered to sell me some pills. When I said thanks and that I had enough he offered to buy some from me...

I’ve been hassled 3 times in my driveway for money. Guys with the wildest stories... my uncle’s girlfriend’s cousin just died and I was just in the hospital so I don’t have money for a phone call, blah blah. The best part is giving them 25 cents. Because then the phone call turns into a bus ticket. I imagine if you given them a dollar, the bus ticket turns into a taxi ride.

I’ve had something similar happen before - I guess I’d left my car unlocked and someone had gone through all my stuff but didn’t take anything ... loose change, CDs, sunglasses, everything was still there, but rearranged.

Wasn’t so interesting for me. Lived in the Bronx, NY from birth to 8. Got mugged twice for Jordan’s , had our Lincoln broken into and my birth chain snatched, and saw my uncle get stabbed. Not a fun experience

My neighborhood is notorious for smash ‘n grabs. Tiny bits of broken auto glass on nearly every block. I have money in savings in case I have to replace a window that insurance doesn’t cover.

We live in a town of 50k, but it still feels like a small town in parts. When we first moved to our town, my gf got concerned reading the police blotters every week, until she started noticing the preponderance of ‘unlocked door’ or ‘open window’ mentions in the incidents. Around here, if you lock your car doors and close your windows at night, it’s all good.

I would have said that here too but a few nights ago on a main street near me 17 cars parked in a row had their windows broken to get at whatever was inside, and I saw a parked wagon this morning with the rear window smashed in.
